My story

Hi, I’m Rinske Douna, a dutch acrylic artist, educator, and full-time explorer of color, chaos, and creativity.

A seed was planted

It all began in a museum.

2 decades ago, I was standing in front of a painting in the Prado Museum in Madrid. The colors, the textures, the emotion, it completely stopped me in my tracks. I remember thinking, I want to do this. I want to be an artist.

At the time, I had never even touched a canvas. But that moment planted a seed that refused to shut up.

The First Step

In my early twenties, I worked for my dad, who organized exhibitions for major museums. Every day I passed an art store on my way to the office. I’d peek inside like a kid staring into a candy shop, pretending I totally knew what all those brushes were for. Spoiler alert, I didn’t.

Years later, after my dad passed away, I finally found the courage to walk in. Around that time, I connected with an artist in Belgium named Nitra Art, who changed everything for me. We met at a huge art store in Antwerp, and he patiently explained which paints to buy, how to mix colors, and how to stop overthinking and just start.

We left with a handful of supplies and spent the afternoon painting in a park. That day, the dream I had been carrying for years finally came alive.

From Hobby to Obsession

At first, I painted at night in my office. By day, I was a graphic and web designer, designing websites and logos. By night, I turned that same desk into a mini painting studio.

I’d clear my workspace, line up my paints, and disappear into colors and textures for hours. Some days I’d stare at the canvas thinking, what even is this? Other days, everything clicked and it felt like the paint was leading the way.

The 100-Day Challenge

In 2018, I gave myself a challenge. Paint one painting every single day for 100 days.

At the time, I was still working as a designer, so it was pure chaos, but the fun kind. I posted a photo of each painting on Instagram just to stay accountable. By day 30, people started noticing. By day 60, my evenings were fully dedicated to painting and my coffee intake had tripled.

Then I decided to share my process on YouTube. With the help of a videographer, I filmed my first video and showed how I created my abstract paintings, including the technique that would later be known as the Dutch Pour. I was nervous about sharing my “secrets,” but I believed creativity grows when it’s shared.

That video took off. Suddenly, people from all over the world were watching, painting, and joining in.

During that same time, I held my first exhibition, showing the first 50 pieces of my 100-day project in my boyfriend’s fashion store. Seeing my paintings hanging there, surrounded by people connecting with them, was surreal. For the first time, I truly felt like an artist.

The Journey Continues

Since then, everything has changed. I left graphic design behind and built a life fully centered around art.

Today, my work is inspired by nature and emotion, filled with organic shapes, transparent layers, and color combinations that bring calm and energy at the same time.

I create original paintings and fine art prints that bring warmth and life into people’s homes. I also teach thousands of students around the world through my online art courses, helping them unlock their creativity and find their own voice.

Every painting starts with curiosity and ends with connection. Because for me, art isn’t just about what’s on the canvas. It’s about what it makes me feel
and the people it touches along the way.

Thank you for being part of my story.
And if you’re standing where I once was, dreaming about painting but not sure where to start... take that first small, brave step!

It might just change your life.

Love,
Rinske
